Effective Fall 2022
The department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Languages, with a concentration in either French or Spanish, as well as minors in the two languages, for students not seeking teaching certification (with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree). The department also offers courses of study leading to teaching certification in the chosen language (see below).
In the 120-hour Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Languages, requirements for the major include a minimum of 36 hours in the same language:

Students with prior exposure to French or Spanish should take the placement exam offered by the Foreign Languages program. Students who take the exam, register for the identified course, and complete that course with a grade of A or B are eligible for course credit for the lower-level (100-, 200-) language courses up to 12 hours. Heritage/native speakers of French or Spanish should contact the department for placement. Heritage/native speakers who complete the appropriate course (as advised by the department) with an A or B are eligible for course credit for the lower-level (100-, 200-) language courses up to 12 hours. Courses FH 101 Beginner's French I (3), FH 102 Beginner's French II (3), FH 201 Intermediate French I (3), and FH 202 Intermediate French II (3) must be taken in sequence (unless the student is exempted by placement test or has instructor’s permission).
