Applications for this program are accepted throughout the year in fall, spring, and summer. 

Application Materials Required for the Certificate in Human Resources Management

Applicants for the Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management must submit all of the following documentation to Graduate Admissions to be considered for admission:

  1. Completed JSU Graduate Application for Admission.
  2. Non-refundable $35.00 application processing fee.
  3. Official transcripts from the baccalaureate degree awarding institution and all transcripts from institutions where post-baccalaureate work has been completed. To be considered for admission, applicants must hold a degree from an institutionally accredited institution or its foreign equivalent. (Students who have previously attended JSU do not need to request a transcript from the University.)
  4. International student applicants must see the International Student Applicants section of this catalog for other application and enrollment requirements.
 

Admission Requirements for the Certificate in Human Resources Management

All students seeking admission to the Certificate in Human Resources Management must have completed the application process and been admitted to the certificate program prior to enrolling in classes. Applicants are admitted on a selective basis upon review of the completed application package.

Applicants must meet one of the following admission formula requirements. For purposes of computing the undergraduate GPA, a 4.00 grade-point scale is used. The plus (+) and minus (-) grades from undergraduate transcripts are not used in calculating the GPA.

Students Accepted for Entry into the Graduate Certificate Program

To obtain admission into the Graduate Certificate Program offered by the College of Business and Industry, students must:

  • Hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Hold an overall undergraduate degree grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

or

  • Hold a graduate degree from an accredited college or university.

All applications will be reviewed by the Graduate Business Programs Coordinator for the College of Business and Industry. The Graduate Business Programs Coordinator will submit to the Dean of the Graduate School their recommendation on the admission of each applicant. The Dean of the Graduate School, in conjunction with the Graduate Business Programs Coordinator, will make the final decision on the admission of the student. 

Students Seeking to Pursue a Master of Business Administration Following Completion of the Graduate Certificate Program

Students who have completed a Graduate Certificate Program can be unconditionally admitted to the MBA program if they meet the following conditions:

  • Have at least a 3.0 GPA on all graduate certificate hours attempted. 
  • Have completed the undergraduate equivalent of the foundation courses with a grade of "C" or better.
  • Students applying for admission to the MBA - Accounting Concentration will have to meet the additional accounting prerequisites.

Students currently enrolled in a Graduate Certificate Program can be conditionally admitted to the MBA program if they meet the following conditions:

  • Have at least a 3.0 GPA on all graduate certificate hours attempted.
  • Are currently in the semester they plan to complete their Graduate Certificate Program. Admission to the MBA program is conditioned on completion of the Graduate Certificate program with a 3.0 GPA on all graduate certificate hours attempted.
  • In addition to completing a Graduate Certificate Program with a 3.0 GPA on all graduate hours attempted, students who have not completed the undergraduate equivalent of foundation courses with a grade of "C" or better can be conditionally admitted to the MBA program pending completion of the required foundation course(s) with a grade of "B" or better.

Any applicant who receives a grade of "C" or lower in any course attempted toward their Graduate Certificate Program who seeks admission to the MBA program must meet the requirements for admission for non-certificate students.

Minimum Requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management

An overall 3.00 GPA is required on all coursework attempted for the graduate certificate. Transfer credit is not accepted toward a graduate certificate program.

Graduation and Comprehensive Exam

No comprehensive exam is required for this Graduate Certificate. All students must apply for certificate completion by the given deadline of the semester in which they plan to complete. Please see the Graduation and Comprehensive Exam section of this catalog for more information.
