The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with a concentration in art history is a flexible 120-hour program which includes the general education curriculum, the required Art major courses, and a minor. The Bachelor of Art degree with a concentration in art history requires 54 hours, including:

All Art majors are required to seek advisement each semester from their advisor and become familiar with the general and specific requirements for the degree which they are seeking. Students majoring in Art with a concentration in art history are required to complete and pass the core Art courses: ART 111 Survey of Art I (3), ART 112 Survey of Art II (WI) (3), ART 134 Drawing I (3), ART 233 Design I (3) , ART 234 Drawing II (3), ART 240 Design II (3), and ART 298 Portfolio Review (0). Students must complete ART 111 Survey of Art I (3) and ART 112 Survey of Art II (WI) (3) before enrolling in 300- and 400-level art history courses. Students must earn a “C” or better in each of the major and minor courses taken. Prior to graduation, all Art majors with a concentration in art history are required to complete a senior seminar focusing on historiography and research methodologies relevant to the art history discipline. Working closely with the instructor, students will write a research paper and oral presentation related to their scholarly interest in art history.
The Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in art history offered by the Department of Art and Design requires an overall minimum of 120 semester hours comprised of the following sub-requirements:
- a minimum of 12 hours of 300/400 level courses at JSU in the major
- a minimum of six hours of 300/400 level courses in the minor at JSU
- 41 hours of Jax MIX general education courses
- 19 hours of support courses
- a minimum of 36 hours of 300/400 level courses, which include those required in the major and minor
Students must earn a minimum of 2.00 GPA overall and at JSU, 2.50 in the major, and a “C” or better in each of the major and minor courses to graduate.
