The requirements for a major in Sociology are a minimum of 120 semester hours, meeting all university and program general education requirements, and 30 semester hours of Sociology coursework. Of the 30 hours required for the Sociology major, 15 hours are core courses, while the additional 15 hours are Sociology concentration courses. The Sociology Program requires an additional 9 hours in one of the following microcredentials (Equity and Diversity, Criminology and Justice in a Diverse Society, or Healthcare Systems and Society).

Microcredential Requirement
Select one of the following microcredentials, each of which requires 9 credit hours:
SY 221 Introduction to Sociology (3) or SY 222 Honors Introduction to Sociology (3) is a prerequisite for most sociology courses. Students are urged to consult with their academic advisor who will be helpful in choosing electives. Students should balance breadth and depth as best suits their own needs and future plans.
