SPL 300  Introduction to Speech-Language Pathology  (3)  

Prerequisite(s): PSY 201.

An overview of normal and disordered human communication across the lifespan. Introduction to the study of speech, language, hearing, and swallowing disorders. Professional roles, ethical considerations, and evidence-based practice are also presented.
SPL 310  Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Hearing  (3)  

Prerequisite(s): BY 101 BY 103 or BY 102 BY 104.

Provides a detailed study of anatomical structures and physiological processes involved in speech production, hearing, and swallowing. Includes respiratory, phonatory, articulatory, and auditory systems.
SPL 320  Language Development  (3)  

Prerequisite(s): SPL 300; PSY 201 or PSY 222.

The course covers normal language acquisition from birth through adolescence, including sound patterns, word structure, sentence structure, meaning, and language use in context development. Cultural and linguistic diversity in language development is explored.
SPL 330  Phonetics and Speech Science  (3)  

Prerequisite(s): SPL 300.

This course examines the interconnected principles of acoustic and articulatory phonetics, speech perception, and speech production, providing students with practical skills in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), acoustic analysis of speech sounds, and introduction to speech science instrumentation.
SPL 370  Neurological Communication Disorders  (3)  

Prerequisite(s): SPL 310 and SPL 320.

This course explores communication disorders arising from various neurological conditions, including aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia, cognitive-communication disorders, and traumatic brain injury.
SPL 380  Voice and Fluency Disorders  (3)  

Prerequisite(s): SPL 310 and SPL 330.

This course offers an in-depth study of both normal and disordered aspects of voice and fluency, including stuttering, cluttering, and voice disorders across a life span.
SPL 450  Introduction to Audiology  (3)  

Prerequisite(s): SPL 310 and SPL 320.

This course offers a comprehensive overview of audiological assessment and hearing disorders affecting individuals throughout the lifespan.
SPL 460  Speech Sound Disorders  (3)  

Prerequisite(s): SPL 330.

This course explores articulation and phonological disorders across the lifespan. Assessment and treatment approaches, including traditional articulation therapy and phonological process approaches will be explored.
